The Allan R. Meyers Memorial Project, prepared by the Institute of Human Centered Design (IHCD), is an investigation of the direct relationship between inequity and racism, particularly in relation to creating disability. Through IHCD’s research paper and documentary film (above), the project is intended to spur conversation about the experience of disability in America, as well as spread awareness that can help inform policy as we seek to rebuild from the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protests. IHCD ultimately calls for an end to doing harm by stimulating rigorous quantitative and qualitative research with neglected populations.

In the paper, IHCD’s wonderful Executive Director Valerie Fletcher articulates, “We need to rebuild our identity on the global stage as a place that strives always for equity and human rights.”

Valerie Fletcher participated as a guest on our first season of At Home, On Air. Click here to listen (or re-listen) to Valerie’s conversation with AHWGO’s Executive Director Susanne Director about inclusive design at the intersection of equity and justice.
