For most people, the notion of spending the last days of life in a sterile hospital room is less than savory. In fact, according to this Times article, 80% of Americans would rather spend their final moments at home. It’s inspiring to read about the (sometimes quite simple, but mostly smallish in scale) changes that folks have made to their immediate environs that have served to more accurately reflect their personal preferences. Some of these choices, such as bringing beach sand inside, or hanging numerous alien heads from the ceiling, may seem a little outlandish to many of us, but mightn’t we choose somewhat idiosyncratic design elements if we knew our days were numbered? Especially if our mobility was impaired to the point needing to spend most of our time indoors?
